It has led the field for decades –
the only thing that hasn’t changed.
When the first Transporter left the production line in 1950 no one
could know that it would become a legend – even though it had
the potential right from the start. After all, it was the commercial
vehicle with only one purpose: to lighten each and every working
day. This has not changed. We still keep our eyes open to develop
solutions that are in line with new requirements. It is easy to
explain why the fifth generation also sets new standards: none
of the countless innovations came into being in theory at the
drawing board but in practice. At building sites. Over long distances.
Every improvement was and is a direct solution for changed
procedures, dimensions and techniques in different sectors.

A workplace you will feel at ease in.
You deserve no less.
The Transporter is a real workhorse yet its handling characteristics
and convenient functions offer much more. Ergonomic seats
make for enjoyable driving. They can be adjusted longitudinally
and, as an optional extra, also have a height adjustment. Heightadjustable
seats or swivelling seats with lumbar support and armrests
can be ordered as optional extras. Every driver therefore has
an optimal sitting position – particularly since there is a standard
height and rake adjustment for the steering wheel. The equipment
is rounded off by a conveniently placed joystick gear lever,
a clearly arranged instrument panel, and a well thought out
storage compartment system featuring plenty of stowage space,
a large glove compartment, many integral storage facilities,
cup holders, and more. An air conditioner is available as an option
to create a pleasant atmosphere inside the Transporter. If one
front passenger is not enough, a 2-seater front passenger bench
seat with integral stowage compartment is available as an
option so that there is room for three in the cab.

a longer service life.
In short, just the engine you want.
Our objective
was clear: to develop engines that set
standards. This requirement is met in
full by the Transporter. The superior
TDI technology has already set new standards
in the commercial vehicle sector. This
means that you have the advantage of higher
output, variability and economy. There
is a choice of six engines with a long
service life. They are differentiated
by their individual strengths and characterised
by balanced road behaviour. Volkswagen’s
diesel engine expertise has been applied
in the development of the four TDI engines
featuring unit injector technology and
low consumption starting at 6.1 litres
per 100 km1). These engines convince drivers
and accountants alike. Additional comfort
at the wheel is assured by the innovative
6-speed automatic gearbox with Tiptronic
which is an option for 2.5 l TDI engines
and standard on the V6 petrol engine.

You concentrate on your customers
and your
schedule. And who concentrates on your safety?
You receive a call and are on
your way – it is therefore reassuring to know
that the Transporter has top marks when it comes
to safety. With an electronic stabilisation programme
(ESP) including brake assist system, anti-locking
brake system (ABS), electronic differential lock
(EDL), and traction control system (TCS) it offers
a complete package so that you arrive safely in
all weathers. Engine braking control (EBC) complements
these systems in an ideal way but is not available
in conjunction with 4MOTION. EBC prevents the
driving wheels breaking away on slippery surfaces
when quickly taking your foot off the accelerator,
or when reengaging the clutch after changing down.
A driver’s airbag is standard, also 3-point inertia
reel seat belts on all seats. Other options available
are a front passenger’s airbag and, for most vehicle
versions, two side airbags plus two curtain airbags
in the cab. Independent suspension gives very
stable roadholding and the supreme engines assure
active safety under all load conditions – so that
you can take every traffic situation in your stride
and arrive at your customers in good shape. |
